Mario is a famous kind of guy these days, which would explain why he's all about reaching for the stars. In typical Mario fashion, your job is to navigate through several levels of coin-grabbing, obstacle-jumping, enemy-avoiding gameplay. Point of Game: To reach the star at the end of every level. Quick Instructions: Use the arrow keys to move from left to right, with your space bar as your key jumping tool. Stop on a hint block and you'll get a clue as to what will happen next. Swallow a magic mushroom and you'll gain an extra life. Good For: Super Mario enthusiasts, pscyhedelic hippies, and gold lovers. Tip: Punch a ? block and you'll find a cache of hidden coins... most of the time. Guess you'll just have to take the chance!

Your task is to avoid the falling objects by jumping over them for maximum points whenever possible. Bonus points are awarded for jumps which are further to the right. Execute Mario stomps on moles and crows for a score boost. Collect corns or rice balls to restore health. Approaching bicycles can be anticipated by listening closely for their ringing bells. Use the arrow keys to move, and hold the space key to jump. Avoid catching her undies to earn extra points at the end of the game.

A Game with a Kitty 2: Darkside Adventures is the latest platformer release by Bernie, featuring a much improved gameplay engine and plenty of secret locations to discover. You take on the role of an Arch-Chancellor on a quest to retrieve the lost crown, which equates to plenty of jumping and throwing stuff around. The protagonist of the story can use the stars collected as weapons, but his inventory capacity will only allow up to thirty of them to be stuffed into his deep pockets. Special skills are awarded for surviving boss encounters, though certain jumps are pretty difficult to execute properly. Only four major locations in total, with an average of four to five short levels assigned to each. There are several tough puzzles to figure out but nothing too perplexing with a bit of thought. Needless to say, a recommended download for fans of classic NES titles especially the Mario series.

Not just reliant on a funny intro song, The Farmer is a pretty good game coded by drZool for the Ludum Dare competition. Part Harvest Moon with some Mario-stomping element, you play the role of a farmer who has to achieve certain level objectives shown before the start of each stage. This would usually be a certain number of coins, seed, flowers or fertilizers. You start off with a few seeds that can be used to generate the four items mentioned, depending on when you decide to harvest them by pressing space. Some planning is required as the game will end if you run out of seeds. You will get more seeds if you pick the flowers as soon as the petals fall off. Exchange flowers picked when in full bloom for coins from the shack on the right. Decomposed flowers can be collected as fertilizers, while roaches can be eliminated by jumping on them. The rules may seem a little complicated at first but players should be able to grasp the concept after a few plays.

Push is a brilliant paint by numbers puzzler, though it does have several glaring problems which were never resolved by the author. Sparse tutorials do little to guide beginners and offer advanced tips, players are instead directed to online resources for advanced lessons. Pressing the shift key to save isn't mentioned anywhere else except during main menu navigation. Cutscenes cannot be skipped but the excellent gameplay it offers will make these issues negligible in just a few short sessions. The action involves repeating a process of elimination in order to figure out pixel placements on a board, assisted only by numbers accompanying each column and row. Definitely more fun than Sudoku and especially entertaining during long trips on the train to work. Placed highly in the inaugural Retro Remakes competition, and comes recommended for fans of fiendish puzzle releases. The same act is required in rolling course, though the ball's speed depends on the length of the line drawn.
